About The Event
Learn how to create Kolams - a thousands of years old artform from South India - using presenter Dr. Gopalan’s knowledge in symmetry. This method looks at Kolams as assembling puzzle pieces (instead of dots and lines) and allows anyone to create highly complex Kolams with no prior knowledge.
Venkat Gopalan is a Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at the Pennsylvania State University. His research group explores crystals for lasers and optical communications. This nicely dovetails with his passion for symmetry, physics, and the underlying mathematics of the world of crystals and beyond.
